Steve Caldwell
I like wood for its color, grain, beauty, and feel.
I have made many things from wood:
Dog houses, Tree houses, Adult houses
Cabinets, Furniture, Railings
Bowls, Vessels, Sculpture
I use wood found near my home, on Vashon
Island, and at the lumber yard.
I have turned wood into shapes from Southwest
Pottery and Native American Baskets; elemental shapes like cones, columns,
eggs, and boats.
I have carved, burned, colored, sandblasted,
bleached, polished, and finished wood.
I have used wood to express ideas about the natural
world; about climate, weather, flora, fauna, and geography.
I like the process of working wood, and the ideas that come to me along the way.
